ABBOTSFORD, BC (December 9, 2021)While the waters may have started to recede in Abbotsford following the recent devastating floods, clean-up and recovery is the next mammoth task ahead. RAD Torque Systems is donating $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to help in flood relief.

RAD Torque Systems, a global industrial torque wrench manufacturer that calls Abbotsford home, made the large donation this week/today. Because both the B.C. and federal governments are matching donations, RAD Torque Systems’ $50,000 donation equates to a total of $150,000 in aid. This support will help those who have lost homes, businesses, and livelihoods.

“We employ more than 100 locals in Abbotsford, and we love this community and have seen first-hand the devastation and heartbreak this extreme weather has caused,” says Dan Provost, owner of RAD Torque Systems. “With both levels of government matching funds, five dollars quickly turns into $15 and that’s a great incentive for everyone to donate. In fact, we want to invite – even to challenge – other businesses to join us in donating to the Canadian Red Cross, because there is a lot to be done here to help people get back on their feet.”

According to the Canadian Red Cross, homes under evacuation orders can receive $2,000. However, for many, that is not nearly enough to replace what was lost. In less than one week, nearly $6 million has been distributed to evacuees.

One of those evacuees was a RAD Torque Systems employee. He had to leave his home and belongings behind when the water levels started rising.

Provost adds, “I’ve seen our business community rally for fire victims this summer, and I’m calling on them to do the same for those affected by the floods. If we CAN help, we must.”

The B.C. and federal government will be matching donations made by individuals and corporations until December 26th.

IFormer Castrol Raceway becomes RAD Torque Raceway

ABBOTSFORD, BC (November 24, 2021) – The popular Edmonton racetrack and complex (formerly known as Castrol Raceway) has a new name: RAD Torque Raceway. The name change is part of a new and exciting five-year sponsorship agreement between the Reeves family, owners of the raceway, and RAD Torque Systems, a torque wrench manufacturer from Abbotsford, BC.

The agreement is a result of one man’s passion for racing. Dan Provost is RAD Torque System’s founder and president. For many decades, he and his family have participated in motorsports. This included sponsoring drag race cars, teams, and events across North America.

“Canadian drag racers have not been allowed in the US to compete for the last two years due to COVID-19, so our participation in the Edmonton race facility is welcome news for all of us,” says Provost. “This partnership is a natural fit for us. Many RAD Torque customers are from Alberta as a result of the oil and gas industry, and many drag racers in the province know us and use our tools.”

Dan Provost has been racing for more than 12 years. But it was his son, Darien — a drag racer himself — who introduced his father to the Reeves family.

“I was first introduced to Chevy Reeves, and I was impressed with him as a person and a racer. I agreed to sponsor his beautiful dragster with the RAD Torque logo,” says Provost. “And later found out that there was an opportunity to take over the sponsorship of the ENTIRE race facility. Needless to say, I was very enthusiastic to become such a large part of the amazing facility in Edmonton.”

The new partnership and facility name also come with some exciting facility improvements. These include resurfacing the quarter-mile dragstrip, installing new sound systems, upgrading LED lighting, and enhancing app-based competitor tech and registration.

“We are lucky to have RAD Torque Systems, a Canadian company with a strong racing background, support our raceway,” says Chevy Reeves. “Since news came out about RAD joining our racing family, we’ve received overwhelming positive feedback from our fans.”

The raceway will host a large launch party in mid-November to celebrate the new partnership.

Digital B-RAD with Reaction Arm best for Arctic Torque Tools

When planning an expanded rail link over the Arctic tundra nearly 100 kilometers away, the team at Baffinland knew they’d need tough tools to get the job done — so they chose RAD Torque Systems.

Linking Baffinland’s River Mary mine to their new Sealift facility meant they needed to acquire more torque wrenches that could withstand the extreme cold temperatures. How cold? Well, the new facility sits about 1500 kilometers inside the Arctic Circle reaching an average winter temperature of -35C. It’s so cold that the extreme weather only allows for 90-days of ice-free shipping every year.

TOUGH CHOICE FOR SUB-ZERO WORK

In these sub-zero temperatures, people typically prefer to use pneumatic tools as their primary choice for work. However, in these extreme situations, air tools freeze up and workers cannot run alcohol through the lines to keep them from doing so.

Having used RAD Torque battery tools in the past, Baffinland knew that the B-RAD and DB-RAD would be perfect for the extreme conditions. In particular, the Digital B-RAD 3000–2 has become the service tool of choice for both mine operations as well as fleet maintenance.

RAD battery tools showcase the latest lithium-ion 18V battery technology, and we all know that lithium-ion batteries perform best when cold. But with temperatures as low as Baffin Island’s, this truly becomes the toughest endurance test known to man.

RACE AGAINST FREEZING

RAD expects to receive a large shipment of B-RAD and DB-RAD tools in August to start the rail line construction. Then the mine crew will have to act fast, as they will only have 90 days to build the expansion before everything freezes up again in October.

So, if you’re wondering how our tools perform in the cold, we can confidently tell you that in one of the most inhospitable landscapes on earth, the only battery arctic torque tool fit for the job is a RAD Torque tool.

Construction cart carrying heavy, large wires and tool for CN's customized torque wrenchHow do customized torque wrenches work? Hear about how CN Rail solved their challenges with an easy solution with RAD Torque Systems. With only eight inches of space in which to fit a torque wrench to tighten the traction motor bolts on their train cars, CN Rail was forced to use a variety of cumbersome tools to get the job done. This included an offset gearbox and a hydraulic wrench to apply the torque. These tools had no torque setting on them. Therefore, the CN Rail team also had to manually check to ensure it was torqued correctly.

After years of making this work, they knew it was time to find a better (and easier) solution.

RAD customized torque wrench option for E-RAD 3000 Offset tool

ENGINEERING THE RIGHT FIT

CN Rail had been using the E-RAD BLU torque wrench on their locomotives and had grown to like the tool, so they wanted to find a way to use the E-RAD on their traction motors. They approached the RAD Torque Systems team to figure out if they could engineer a better solution to their problem.

In order to gain a better understanding of the issue, the RAD engineering team went to the CN site. They took measurements of the traction motors, the total space, and the bolts. With the specific requirements of the job in mind, the RAD team designed a customized version of the E-RAD 3000 Offset. They even tailored this version to fit the traction motors.

We sent the initial drawings to the CN team for approval and then created a prototype of the new, customized torque wrench. Then the RAD engineering team went to the CN site once again to test the prototype.

Three months after that initial visit, the CN Rail team had a new tool.

WORKING MORE EFFICIENTLY

Today, CN Rail has a more efficient way of tightening the traction motor bolts, with a torque of 2250 ft. lbs. Plus, the E-RAD 3000 Offset is capable of data collection. This means we record and can download every bolt that is torqued to ensure it was done properly.

By working with RAD Torque to create a customized torque wrench, they have now reduced the number of tools they need on the job. They’ve also reduced the number of employees needed to do the job, from two down to one. And, they are able to tighten traction motor bolts three times faster. More importantly, the company is very happy with the outcome.

If your bolts are in awkward spaces and your team is using old or multiple tools to get the job done, consider speaking to the RAD Torque team. We can customize a solution to fix your challenge.

RAD East Torque Systems office

After much anticipation, we’re excited to announce that our Eastern Canada team, RAD East Torque Systems, has officially moved into their space in Beamsville, Ontario. The move to the new 2,500 square foot Velocity Service Centre is aimed at expanding RAD Torque’s capabilities. This expansion will enable us to better serve the Eastern Canadian market.

EXPANDED CAPABILITIES

“Moving into a larger space increases our warehouse capacity by 300%, which will allow us to expand both our tooling and parts inventory to meet the growing demand we’re seeing in Eastern Canada,” says Mark Venables, RAD East’s General Manager.

The all-new service centre will now nearly triple RAD East’s service capabilities compared to 2020, which allows the team to offer on-the-fly servicing and planned maintenance appointments. “We hope to be able to bring clients and distributors back into the facility soon for our expanded training program and future product launches, with the goal of broadening our team’s knowledge,” explains Mark.

FOCUS ON ISO 17025 CERTIFICATION

Over the next few months, RAD East plans to focus on their ISO 17025 certification, with Gregg Venables, Office Manager, overseeing the process with the help of the RAD Torque compliance team at our headquarters in Abbotsford, BC. “Having the RAD East facility ISO 17025 certified means that our customers, both locally and throughout Eastern Canada, can trust that their tools are maintained correctly and that our team follows strict protocol,” says Mark.

GLOBAL EXPANSION

In addition to RAD East’s program to offer tools, training, servicing, and maintenance to Canada’s Eastern Provinces, the RAD East team hopes to act as a catalyst for RAD’s expanding global business model. Building satellite locations, similar to RAD East’s new space, will hasten the expansion for RAD on a worldwide scale.

RAD East Torque Systems entrance“Our goal has always been to provide our existing and future clients with fast response times, rapid service, and detailed training,” explains Mark. “We wouldn’t have been able to build this showpiece facility without the help, guidance, and trust from Dan Provost, President and Owner and the rest of the RAD Torque team, in particular our Cheerleader in Chief, Irene Tod. It’s been a long and winding road to get to this point but this new space is exactly what we envisioned back when we started RAD East.”

Working closely with their Abbotsford account managers Dennis Roy, Murray Chapman, and Jenny Lura over the years, the RAD East team has grown exponentially since 2014. They have expanded their operations significantly during this time. Now the RAD East team will continue the pursuit of world domination. They will do so with the help of Gregg Venables, Tommy Rodrigues, and Sylvain Duguay at the new Ontario facility.

Please join us in congratulating Mark Venables and his team for all their hard work. We’re excited to see where this new facility takes them!

“RAD East is available 23.5 hours a day for training, servicing, and maintenance inquiries, please email the team at radeast@radtorque.com” according to Mark!

RAD Torque Releases the B-RAD S

ABBOTSFORD, BC (March 22, 2021) – RAD Torque Systems is launching its most advanced battery tool today: the B-RAD S. The new extreme torque wrench is an addition to the popular battery-operated series known as the B-RAD. Like its predecessor, the B-RAD SELECT, the new S tool has a brushless motor for speed and efficiency but it’s integrated with a torque transducer for incredible accuracy regardless of joint conditions.

B-RAD BL S“Integrating a transducer into our powerful B-RAD series with a brushless motor was imperative based on industry demands,” says Dan Provost, founder and owner of RAD Torque. “The ability to have a battery-operated torque wrench that can read torque measurements in real-time with the added bonus of easily accessible torque is invaluable for big industry applications. We’re excited to get this new tool into the hands of workers around the world.”

This tool automatically records all torque cycles, including torque measurements, through the integrated transducer. The data from the torque measurements recorded on each job can easily be retrieved wirelessly with a Bluetooth connection and the easy-to-use RAD software. This additional control not only increases the accuracy of your torque output, but the transducer measurement also allows the recorded torque logs to hold up to scrutiny.

This new addition also offers angle movement. The angle capabilities means this tool can be used on even difficult and critical applications.

Provost adds, “if you’re looking for a tool with portability combined with real-time torque measurement and logs, and the ability to have angle movement, you won’t find a better tool than the B-RAD S.”

This tool has torque capabilities of up to 5,000 ft. lbs. All RAD Torque tools are calibrated to ISO 17025 standards.
